Build a chess board with legal moves

• Render an 8x8 board with alternating colours, coordinates, and the starting position using Unicode pieces or SVG
• Clicking a piece of the player to move selects it and highlights its legal destination squares; clicking a highlighted square moves it, and clicking elsewhere clears the selection
• Movement rules for each piece: pawn (one or two forward, diagonal capture), knight, bishop, rook, queen and king, with sliding pieces blocked by other pieces and captures of opponent pieces only
• Turns alternate between white and black, shown in a status line, and a move history list is kept
• A move that leaves the player's own king in check is illegal and is not offered; the status shows "Check" when the player to move is in check
• The status shows checkmate or stalemate when the player to move has no legal moves

• Castling, en passant and pawn promotion
• Undo the last move, and flip the board
